WANITA MIC SECRETARY S.KAMALAVANI PASSES AWAY


SITIAWAN: Wanita MIC secretary S. Kamalavani (pic), who had gone to India to seek treatment for lung infection and heart disease, passed away at Hospital Meetha in Chennai on Tuesday.
Kamalavani, who was also the Wanita division chairman for Lumut, was 52 and leaves behind her husband, K. Veelasamy, 54.
She will be buried at the Pundut Tamil cemetery.
Former MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said Kamalavani's passing was a huge loss to the party and the people in Lumut.
"I knew her several years ago. She is known to be very active in party activities and in providing services to the people," Samy Vellu said Thursday.
Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said he was shocked by her death.
"She looked healthy about two weeks ago when I saw her.
"I had known she was not well a year ago but she had lived her live normally while being involved in party activities," he said, adding that Kamalavani was well-known to the people in Lumut.
He added that Kamalavani was a selfless and good leader.
Transport Minister and Lumut MP Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha and HumanResources Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam also paid their respects to the family on Wednesday.
